Welcome to Rietfontein Ostrich Palace, a working ostrich farm situated
between Calitzdorp (Port Capital of the World) - & Oudtshoorn
(Ostrich Capital of the world) on the Route 62
(longest wine route in South Africa).
It is the eldest working ostrich farm in the Cape Colony, established
by the Potgieter family in 1897 and boasts with one of the most
intriguing ostrich palaces, dating back to the early 1900's
(the feather boom era).
Retaurant
Enjoy a scrumptious meal at our restaurant, situated in the old barn. Lunch and dinner is also available. Open daily to the public from 09h30 - 16h00.

3 Units (6 rooms) are available in beautifully restored cottages, tastefully furnished, all with en-suite bathrooms.

Activities
Daily ostrich tours are being done, lasting for an hour. These tours are not commercial.
Bookings are essential.
Weddings, Conferences, Birthday- and Christening celebrations, can also be arranged.

History of the farm
The Potgieter family established Rietfontein Ostrich Palace in 1879, and today the fifth generation
Potgieters work here among the dramatic Red Stone Hills. The ornate Ostrich Palace was built in 1909
for the current owner's great-grandmother. Rietfontein is the oldest established ostrich farm in the world.
